Hardin Junior Wins GO TELL SETX Car, More Than 200 Win A Bigger Prize

From left to right, Omar Cantu and David Williams congratulate Tyler, 17, a junior at Hardin High School, who won the free car given away the last night of GO TELL SETX.

The car give-away was a means to encourage local middle schoolers and high schoolers to attend the event at Liberty Memorial Stadium. The teens were also provided a free pizza dinner before the service.

Leaders offered the pizza and car because they wanted as many youth as possible to attend so they could hear the gospel. Total attendance was more than 2,000, which included more than 500 students. Many of those students were among the 348 who responded to the altar call at the end of the service.

Of those 348 making decisions, 205 accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. That was just on Wednesday evening.

"Winning a car was a great blessing to Tyler, but much better than that is the fact that earlier that evening, Tyler had placed his faith in Jesus Christ," said David Williams, crusade chair and director of missions for Trinity River Baptist Association. "He and more than 200 others won a much better prize than a car. They walked into that stadium separated from God, but when they left they were children of God with the guarantee of eternal life."

Williams said the evening was the climax of a process that began more than a year ago when he first met Rick Gage at a meeting in Phoenix and they began to talk about building a local team of leaders who would host a Go Tell crusade in the Liberty-Dayton area. Since then, more than 500 local people have been involved at some level in planning and carrying out the crusade.

"As those of us who had spent the last year planning and working toward this event looked at the crowd of people who came forward to make spiritual decisions, we were able to see the actual fruit of our labors," Williams said. "We are so thankful that the Lord allowed us to have a small part in the miraculous work He has done here in Liberty and the surrounding area. And we are anxious to help all those who made decisions continue their walk with the Lord."

Pastors and members of participating churches are in the process now of contacting those who made decisions.

"But, if you made a decision, don't wait for someone to contact you," Williams said. "Find a church to attend this Sunday morning. It's Easter, Resurrection Sunday, when we celebrate the fact that Jesus who died on the cross to pay for our sins, three days later arose from the dead to give us eternal life. Every follower of Jesus needs to be in a church this Sunday worshipping Him."

Williams also encouraged those who made decisions to email him at [email protected] and he will help them find someone to walk beside them as they follow Jesus.

The entire GO TELL SETX campaign recorded 720 total spiritual decisions, of which 382 were decisions to trust Christ.

What Will You Remember in 40 Years?

What will you remember 40 years from tonight?

"When I heard Dr. Luke Chachere share his testimony Sunday evening about how a Freddie Gage crusade in Dayton 40 years ago transformed his life, I tried to imagine what people will remember 40 years after GO TELL SETX," said David Williams, crusade chairman and director of missions for the Trinity River Baptist Association.

Freddie Gage was the father of Rick Gage who is the evangelist preaching tonight and tomorrow night at GO TELL SETX at the Liberty Memorial Stadium on the northeast corner of Bowie and Grand. Between 1,500 and 2,000 people attended each of the first two nights of the crusade. Already 275 spiritual decisions have been recorded, more than 130 of them people trusting Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

What is happening now reminds Chachere of that earlier crusade. He was a new college student when Dayton hosted Freddie Gage and God used the event to change his future and transform his life.

"Forty years later, when I told Dr. Luke what was coming to Liberty, he couldn't wait to get on board and go all in to involve his church, his friends, his colleagues in the community, his clients at the veterinary clinic, and anyone else who would listen to him," Williams said. "That excitement came out of the life change he experienced under a similar crusade 40 years ago."

As Williams thought about 40 years in the future, he imagined there will be a lot of "Luke Chacheres" around who will remember GO TELL SETX.

"Forty years from now there will be thousands who remember what happened this week, and hundreds who will testify that this week was a pivotal time in their lives when they experienced a moment that changed everything," Williams said.

"The sad thing is that there will be tens of thousands who won't remember it at all because, even though they knew something was going on at the stadium, they chose to stay home. They thought, 'This isn't for me,' or, 'I don't want to risk what might happen,' or, 'I'm okay just like I am,' or 'I'm not a very religious person,' or 'I've got better things to do.'

"What a tragedy to have a once-in-a-generation event like this in your own community and not making the effort to drive to the stadium, park your car, walk into the stands, and listen for God to speak to you in a way you have never heard Him speak to you before," Williams said.

"Come tonight and come tomorrow night," he urged. "Do you know someone who needs Jesus? Pray for them, invite them to the crusade, and bring them with you. Come witness with the rest of us the miracles that God is doing right here in Liberty, Texas. Maybe one of the miracles will even be you!"

GO TELL SETX!

On Saturday, a dozen professionals and 50 volunteers gathered at the local football field to unpack a tractor trailer full of high tech audio-visual equipment and set up a mobile stage, massive sound system with multiple speaker arrays, and two giant digital screens in preparation for the biggest evangelistic event this area has ever seen.

For more than a year, leaders have been planning and working toward the four-night, community-wide, interdenominational GO TELL SETX crusade which runs Sunday, Apr. 13, through Wednesday, Apr. 16, at Liberty Memorial Stadium on the northeast corner of Bowie and Grand in Liberty, Texas.Start time is 7 p.m. each evening.

Guest speakers will be Rick Gage on Sunday and Wednesday, with Adrian Despres as guest speaker Tuesday night. Rush of Fools is the worship band each evening. Sunday's session will also feature a 60-voice community choir composed of singers from various churches in the area.

"This is a once-in-a-generation event that no one in our community should miss," said David Williams, crusade chairman and director of missions for Trinity River Baptist Association. "We have more than 2,000 seats, so there is room for you. There is no charge for admission, of course, and there is plenty of parking at the stadium and in the parking lots of the two adjoining schools, as well as on the streets. Don't let anything keep you from coming this first night."
